RPDP: Elements of Literacy - 3 credits

This course will address the K-5 Standards that relate to Word Knowledge and Vocabulary, Comprehension, and Writing, and include instructional strategies and classroom applications to help increase student achievement. Pathlore ID:  RPLIT 22203

Number Sense for Elementary Teachers - 1 Credit

In this one credit course, participants will be exposed to various strategies and activities related to number sense. Topics will be explored from multiple perspectives, including linkage to other content and process strands, and real-world applications.  Pathlore ID: RPMAT52004

Geometry for the Elementary Classroom - 1 Credit

This one credit course is designed to develop the teacher's content knowledge in the area of Geometry. Pedagogical knowledge will be enhanced through sharing of materials and teaching practices in order to improve student accessibility. Topics include:Transformations and Symmetry, Visualization, Spatial Reasoning and Modeling, and Coordinate Geometry. Pathlore ID: RPMAT22000

Problem Solving K-5 - 1 Credit

This one credit course will provide an in-depth exploration of problem solving and its' applications to the mathematical content and process standards and to the curriculum in Kindergarten through fifth grade. Main topics in this course are: phases of problem solving, problem solving strategies, criteria for good problems, questions that promote mathematical thinking, routine-vs-non-routine problems, and evaluation/assessment. RPDP/K-2 Science - 3 Credits

This three credit course is designed to focus on the implementation of the Nevada State Science Standards using effective teaching strategies, as well as strategies for successfully implementing informational texts in the K-2 classroom. The class will also provide opportunities for teachers to examine more closely K-2 Physical, Earth, and Life Science content standards. Furthermore we will explore the topic of assessment and methods for assessing K-2 science. Pathlore ID: RPSCI12006 

OR

RPDP: Science for 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades - 3 Credits

This three credit course will focus on grade level science content, pedagogy, and strategies that teachers can implement in their classrooms. Earth, physical, life, and nature of science content at each grade level will be examined. Teachers will explore the use of assessment to facilitate learning in the classroom as well as engage in reflective practice by sharing ideas and interacting professionally with a network of colleagues. The class will also provide opportunities for teachers to become familiar with reading, writing, and vocabulary strategies for informational texts in the science classroom. Pathlore ID: RPSCI52001

Integration of Productivity Programs - 3 Credits 

This course will cover the MS Office Suite. Word will include beginning features such as spell checker, the thesaurus, and the outline capabilities to intermediate (columns, writing tools, graphics) and onto advanced features (merging data). Excel provides special tools to help make sense out of vast amounts of data. Excel can be used to perform calculations using built-in formulas, every-thing from Standard Deviation to calculating your car payment, calculate grades, chart data that would otherwise be overwhelming. Components of PowerPoint such as text, graphs, 3-D objects, and animation will be covered.  Access will be used to learn databases and their uses. see rpdp.net

Internet Resources - 3 Credits

Teachers spend a great deal of their time finding and implementing challenging assignments.  Technology tools are available for teachers to make this task simpler and less time-consuming.  Becoming familiar with these tools leaves teachers with more time to focus on instructional planning and methodologies. This class will assist teachers to create classroom or professional development projects focusing on the merging of state of the art computer technologies with project based curriculum designs. The course will provide guidance and assistance to teachers to implement course objectives in their classroom or workplace. Participants will work collaboratively to provide educators with professional growth opportunities, integrating curriculum initiatives with computer communications.  see rpdp.net

Investigating World Cultures w/Technology - 2 Credits

This two credit course is designed to increase awareness of the many diverse cultures with which teachers work. Microsoft Word & PowerPoint, KLVX video streaming, Inspiration, and assorted web sites will be used to allow students to create a complete unit on one world culture each. Upon conclusion of the course each student will receive a set of CD's containing each of the projects thus enabling them to have a complete file of many cultures for use in their classroom or program. In addition, Mediacast will be utilized to facilitate web meetings on a weekly basis and will be used for tutorials, discussion board questions, assignment drop box, instructor notes, and student questions.  see rpdp.net

Integrating History with Technology - 1 Credit

This course will show many examples of using technology to create U.S. History lessons that can easily be used in the classroom.  The lessons can be easily modified to fit a variety of levels and subjects.  Upon conclusion of the course, each student will receive a CD containing all of the lesson information that was presented during the class enabling him or her to incorporate these lessons immediately.  A handful of the lessons will be taught in the class giving each student an opportunity to experience the lesson first hand.  see rpdp.net

Teaching Elementary Geography - 1 Credit

This one credit class will focus on the basic concepts, skills, and themes used in the teaching of geography to K-5 students. Participants will experience traditional content lectures, hands-on small group activities, and standards-based geography lessons designed to help teachers integrate geography into the curriculum. Field Geography for Teachers - 1 Credit

This one credit class will focus on physical and human geography content and the local re-sources available for teachers and students to experience geographic learning in the field.
